Hunger | Food and Ambition Part 1: 5 Tips to Stay Full Longer

Part I of the Hunger Series!

As I spoke about in my last post, hunger is a word with different meanings. For one, hungry means...well hungry for food. And let me tell ya, I love food. However, hunger can also mean a yearning, drive or ambition for something. We all can relate upon the first meaning of hunger. We also can all relate that we have yearned for something, but may not be able to relate to each other on WHAT specifically we yearn for or are ambitious for. Which is good! We all have different interests and passions.

Today's blog however will focus on what we all can relate to: food!

If you're anything like me, you get hungry often....like wayyyy too often. 

So, I am here to give you 5 tips to stay full longer!

1. Eat a balanced breakfast.

I know this is hard for some people. I hear a lot of people say that they aren't hungry in the morning or they don't have time to eat, etc. etc. Which all used to be true for me too! However, once I knew the value of breakfast, I started to make it a priority. I made myself eat a balanced breakfast, aka protein, carbs and fat. Years later, I still eat breakfast. It's the best way to start the day - and I make sure it's balanced and includes protein and healthy fat! That brings us to number two..

2. Eat enough protein.

Pay attention to how much protein you are eating at each meal. Depending on your activity level and other factors, everyone is a little different with how much protein they should be eating. But I bet you would be surprised at how little of protein you are getting in your diet. Need help in this area specifically? Contact me for some guidance! I'd be happy to help!

 3. Eat your healthy fats.

Avocados, almonds, nut butters - these all can help you stay full. And yes, fat is necessary for your body!

4. Drink plenty of water!

I know how many times you probably have heard this, but it's the truth. Drink some water if your feeling hungry and make sure you aren't just dehydrated. 

5. Stop and ask yourself if you're really hungry.

Boredom eating. We have all done it, knowingly and unknowingly. So, next time you are feeling hungry or wanting to snack, I want you to pause for a moment and really assess if you are hungry or if you are just bored. Become more aware of when and why you are eating. 

 

Just a reminder, that no one is perfect. And sometimes I get super hungry and will reach for the pizza and breadsticks over anything. But it's balance. And it's OKAY! Don't ever beat yourself up or get down about your health habits. Just commit to being better the next time.
